Peak Bloom Prediction for DC!

by | Mar 2, 2022

The National Park Service predicts that the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin will reach peak bloom during the week of March 22nd, just three weeks away! Hearing that news on the first of March, with February a recent memory, it seemed unbelievable. But earlier today I noticed an Okame that lives in a sunny spot next to heat-reflecting, red brick building was beginning to show flowers, so peak bloom later this month for those famous Yoshinos in Potomac Park no longer seems so far-fetched.

Enjoy this image of an Okame in full bloom at the US National Arboretum and read all about how this variety was developed along with other cherry blossom stories in Naoko Abe’s fabulous book, The Sakura Obsession.
